Week 3: Due Thursday, September 12

Test your knowledge of this past week's vocab homework by identifying which word fits each of the following five entries. Your answers should also explain why.  Words may be used more than once, and one entry may have more than one answer.  No cheating!!!

Number 1
11.      Between my finger and my thumb
The squat pen rests; snug as a gun

N.   Number 2
22.      Fountain, coolest fountain,
Cool fountain of love,
Where all the sweet birds come
For comforting-but one,
A widow turtledove,
Sadly sorrowing,
At once the nightingale,
That wicked bird, came by,
And spoke these honied words:
"My lady, if you will,
I shall be your slave."
"You are my enemy:
Begone, you are not true!"
Green boughs no longer rest me,
Nor any budding grove.
Clear springs, where there are such,
Turn muddy at my touch.
I want no spouse to love
Nor any children either.
I forego that pleasure and their comfort too.
No, leave me; you are false
And wicked-vile, untrue!
I'll never be your mistress!
I'll never marry you!

Number 3

33.      Ascend from childhood and become independent.
He measured his weight and also his height.
She kept the letter, but accidentally dropped it later.

       Number 4
44.      As spring did pass into summer’s full bloom
To stand with arms outstretched in seasons all
As the seasons knit like the weaving loom
Through the cold of winter, strong through to fall

Its strength and character for eons stand
The unkindest cut that will ever be
To not love and support this tree so grand
And not to kindly prune the fruiting tree.

The strength of sweeping boughs as arms held wide
My heart grows secure within those limbs strong
As arms strong, my dreams to be held inside
Standing folded in your boughs is not wrong

Number 5
55.      As a strong longing to be my fruit tree
I beg of nature that you fruit with me
